Course evaluations are driven by students’ willingness to provide responses regarding faculty teaching and course details. So how do we spur students to act and provide their feedback? Obtaining relevant information from students is a team effort, with action coming from faculty, deans, department chairs, and administrators across campus. This presentation will focus on specific ways that stakeholders can contribute to improving response rates using the Anthology Evaluate tool.
This video features an overview of suggested strategies you may use on your campus to boost student engagement, faculty engagement, and improve response rates.
Strategies we suggest include:
- Instructors allowing students class time to complete their evaluations.
- Instructors sharing how they have leveraged student evaluation and feedback to shape their course or teaching tactics.
- Providing students who complete their evaluations in full with campus-wide incentives (such as drawings).
- Encouraging deans and chairs on campus to monitor the response rates for their areas in real-time.
- Instructors monitoring response rates for their courses so that they may take action in areas where the response percentage may be lower than desired.
- Marketing course evaluations to students to inform and remind them to complete these.
- Providing early access to grades for students who complete their evaluations in full.
- Leveraging technology systems already on campus to inform and encourage student participation in course evaluations (such as a learning management system).
- Schedule email reminders with a strategic plan focused on timing and frequency.
- Talk to students about the importance of course evaluations.
